The Ancora Duo - Review - Norman Payne

On Saturday 26th September the audience at the Minster were spellbound by the recital given by The Ancora Duo – the combination of the award winning flautist, Anne Allen and the multi-talented Sarah Freestone who on these occasions plays guitar but who could play a different instrument each day of the week providing she had time spare from composing, conducting, directing, etc., etc.

The most well-known piece was the Fauré Pavane, the melody of which was well suited to Anne’s hauntingly beautiful and flawless flute playing.  Other items in the programme ranged from Bach; the 18th Century guitar pioneer, Christian Scheidler, and a variety of works from the Latin countries superbly played by both artists with Sarah particularly prominent in the Spanish/Argentine compositions.

As they might say in sports reporting -‘the gals done well’.

Come back soon!
